February, 2007 Neighbor of the Month Joe Biddle
Few Polk Place residents are aware that our cozy little community boasts a very popular, talented sports columnist. Wagon Court resident Joe Biddle regularly infuses the sports section of The Tennessean with his own unique blend of wit, wisdom and superior sports perspective born of a very long and impressive career.
“I was Sports Editor/Columnist for the Nashville Banner for 18 years before it closed. It closed on a Friday and I went to work for The Tennessean the following Monday,” Joe says. After nine years with the paper, Joe enjoys a solid fan base. In addition to work on his very popular sports column, Joe co-hosts “Afternoon Pressbox,” a sports talk show on WNSR-560 AM with Bill King, also of Williamson County.
Joe and Sharon, his wife of thirty-two years, have called Polk Place home for four-and-a-half years. They share their home with Festus, their ten-year-old cat. Joe enjoys what he refers to as “a pretty average game of golf,” reading books related to various historical topics, with military history at the top of the list, and watching movies. In addition, he says he makes it his mission “to never miss the TV program ‘24’.”
Joe enjoys living in Polk Place in part because of its close proximity to I-65, the Cool Springs area, historic downtown Franklin and 840. He has many ideas for improving our lovely community. “(I think we should) make parking on the streets illegal, with repeat violators subject to fines from the board. This worked when I was on the board at Forest Crossing. (We should also) enforce (the rule that states residents can’t) keep garbage cans in view from the street. We need to take a long look at fences, the ones that are obviously showing their age and have a conformity as to type and material used in fences,” he says.
The savvy sports writer/philosopher says he enjoys life in Williamson County because it’s “a great location, with a lot of things within easy driving distance. I also like the beauty of the rolling hills, trees and streams that you can’t find in Nashville. I don’t like the mushrooming housing explosion. |
