Some of the latest happenings in Polk Place:

  • At the Homeowners Meeting last November, Pete Dirksen, Robert Taylor and Deon Ducey were re-elected to the Board of Directors.  The Board met and the following officers were re-elected to serve for a one year term that expires in November of 2000:  Pete Dirksen, President, Robert Taylor, Vice President and Deon Ducey, Secretary/Treasurer.  At the Homeowners Meeting in November of 2000, five (5) persons will be elected to the Board.  We are looking for volunteers to serve on a Nominating Committee to help fill the Board.  Please feel free to contact any of the current Board members should you have any questions or should you wish to volunteer.

  • Last November, Jack Sneed prepared a petition to our City Alderman in response to Carnton Mansion representatives seeking an easement through the front entrance to Polk Place.  Jack and some other volunteers circulated the petition throughout the neighborhood and we turned in some 140 signatures to Marcia Allen.  From what we understand, Carnton wants to be a good neighbor and they will not pursue the easement.  Thanks to Jack and the other volunteers (whose names escape me) for their time and effort.

  • By now, you should have noticed some changes at the front entrance to Polk Place:

1.                    An irrigation system has been installed to water the common area surrounding the ponds near the Mack Hatcher entrance.  The irrigation system has been connected to the spring that feeds the ponds.  Thanks to Robert Taylor for his efforts in this project.

2.                    The two “P” columns have lights that now shine on each column.  We hope to have the timer fixed shortly.  Thanks to Robert Taylor for his efforts on this project.

3.                    Jay Franks has replaced many of the dead trees around the ponds and has planted the trees in front of the pool.  Thanks to Jay for finishing the landscaping out front.

4.                    Both ponds now have fountains.  Thanks to Jay Franks for purchasing the fountains and to Robert Taylor for his efforts to keep them working.

  •   The Board met with the Traffic and Safety Committee of the City of Franklin this winter.  The City has approved the installation of two additional stop signs along Polk Place Drive.  The first stop sign will be at the intersection of Polk Place Drive and Grove Lane.  The second stop sign will be located at Polk Place Drive and the second Juliana Drive intersection (before traveling downhill to Sontag Drive).  These two intersections will become three way stops.  We hope to have the new stop signs installed by the end of May.

Please remember that the speed limit in the subdivision is 25 miles per hour.  It is spring and summer will be here shortly.  More people, especially children, will be outside and for the safety of our neighbors and their guests, please observe the speed limit.

  • Attached to this newsletter was a brochure created by the Covenants Committee.  Please take the time to review the handout.  If you desire to make changes to the outside of your house, such as a fence or a screened in porch, please contact the Covenant Committee and have your plans approved in advance.  Please do not wait until the last minute as the members of the Committee are busy people and it puts them in an unfair position to have to respond to your last minute requests.  The ladies at the Sales Trailer are not permitted to approve fences or other changes to your house.

  • The Homeowners Association is still looking for volunteers for a Welcoming Committee, a Social Committee, the Pool Committee, a Nominating Committee, a Newsletter Committee, the Landscaping Committee and such other committees as may be appropriate.  This is your neighborhood, so your input and participation is vital to making Polk Place a great place to live.

  • Attention Pet Owners:  If you have a pet (The term “pet” includes, but is not limited to, dogs and cats), you are required, by the Polk Place covenants, to keep the pet on a leash or confined to your house and yard.  Pets are not supposed to roam freely through Polk Place.  If you permit your pet to roam the neighborhood and the animal turns up missing, call Williamson County Animal Control.  If you walk your animal, please take a Pooper-Scooper with you, as the covenants require you to clean up after your pet.  Also, please do not take offense when a homeowner requests that you remove your pet’s waste from his/her yard.  Your cooperation will be greatly appreciated.

  • The pool will open on May 26 for the 2000 Pool Season.  Dues have been set at $140 per household.  You must pay your pool dues and be current with your quarterly dues in order to use the pool.  Polk Place residents may not use the pool unless they have paid their user fee--thus, you may not bring as your guest another Polk Place resident who has not paid their user fees.  Persons caught using the pool without paying the user fee will be assessed the $140 user fee.  Please feel free to pay your dues to a member of the Pool Committee, a Board member or drop it off at the Sales Trailer.

  • If you do pay the pool fee, you will be required to sign a release (as in year’s past) and you will be given the combination to the lock on the gate.  Pool hours will be 9am to 9pm seven days a week.  Anyone loitering in the pool parking lot or on the pool grounds after these hours is trespassing and is subject to arrest.  Please abide by the rules so as not to disturb your neighbors who live closest to the pool.

  • It’s back!  The Yard of the Month contest is back in full swing.  Thanks to Tim Kearns and Flower Power for once again sponsoring this contest.  We are looking for volunteers to help select the winning yards.  Please contact Paul Kiger if you have an interest in this committee.

  • As far as social activities are concerned, we will attempt to have another golf tournament and barbecue dinner in the fall.  Is there an interest in a Polk Place night at a Sounds game?  If you have any thoughts about a social activity, please contact us or better yet, please volunteer to be on the Social Committee to help organize such activities.

Finally, if you wish to have a link to your business on the Polk Place Website, please let us know.  It is free to all residents. There will be a $10.00 per month fee for this link (the fees will help defray the cost of maintaining the website) for anyone that does not live in Polk Place. Mary Ann and Pegine have given the website address to persons calling about Polk Place, thus, this may be a good form of advertising your business.
