Yard of the Month Guidelines

Three homes are selected monthly from April thru October by each of the three Yard of the Month Committee members. Then they meet and decide the winner. If you have any ideas or suggestions, please contact the Yard of the Month Committee. The Polk Place Yard of the Month is sponsored by Harpeth True Value on Columbia Avenue 794-3641 .

Local Lawn Care Tips

2002-2005 winners are announced on our Bulletin Board

1. One yard per month will be selected during the months of May through September.

2. No yard can be selected more than once per calendar year.

3. Members of the selection committee and the Homeowner's Board of Directors are not eligible to be selected.

4. Selection will be made during the last week of each month.

5. Only curbside view of the yard will be considered for selection. (Even though some have worked very hard to have a nice back yard, due to time constraints, only front yards will be considered.)

6. Lawn color should be nice and green, preferably weed-free or weeds well under control, and nicely trimmed on a regular basis.

7. A variety of colors, shape, and size of shrubbery that offers good balance to the shape and size of the homeowner's house is also considered. The shrubbery should be kept neatly trimmed and have a healthy color.

8. Use of color from annuals and perennials in a pleasing manner helps in the selection of the winning yard.

9. Once a yard is agreed upon, a sign is placed in the winning yard and will remain there until a new winner is chosen for the next month. The sign is placed in the yard for the passersby to see. At this time a printed certificate announcing that their yard has been chosen "Yard of the Month" is presented to the homeowners. They are to take this certificate to Harpeth True Value on Columbia Avenue to be redeemed for $50 worth of merchandise
